AE-FUNAI Signs Strategic MoU With AG-ZARA Construction Ltd For On-Campus Student Hostels

In a landmark move to expand access to on-campus student accommodation, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, on Thursday, June 11, 2026 signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private investor, AG-ZARA Construction Limited for the construction of student hostels.

The MoU is the first of its kind since the university’s establishment in 2011 and marks a new chapter under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu.Speaking at the signing ceremony in his conference room, Prof. Nwachukwu described the agreement as the first in the university’s history but “ the beginning of many other strategic MoUs” his administration intends to pursue for the benefit of staff, students, and the institution.

He commended AG-ZARA Construction Ltd for partnering with the university to provide affordable, liveable, and eco-friendly accommodation on campus, noting that the initiative will protect students from exploitation by private hostel owners off campus.

He also highlighted the company’s track record in physical infrastructure development and stressed that the partnership would be mutually beneficial.In his remarks, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of AG-ZARA Construction Ltd, Mr. Chuku Wachuku, said the MoU represents more than a formal agreement on paper; it is a convergence of shared vision for institutional advancement.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his visionary leadership, relentless drive and unwavering dedication to student and staff welfare, stating, “True leaders do not just manage the present: they architect the future. Your commitment to transforming this campus infrastructure is exemplary.”Mr. Wachuku assured the university of his company’s commitment to delivering the project.

While the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nwachukwu and Registrar Barr. T. Ifeany Igwe signed for the university, Chairman/CEO, Mr. Wachuku and Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer, Chief Chukwuemelie Agu signed for AG-ZARA Construction Ltd.
