Ahmadu Bello University to Confer Honorary Degrees on Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Sale Al-Hussain
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has announced that it will confer honorary degrees on two distinguished individuals, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Sale Al-Hussain, at its 44th Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the current Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will receive a Doctor of ScienceHonoris Causa. She is a renowned global finance expert, economist, and international development professional with over 40 years of experience working in various parts of the world.
Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Sale Al-Hussain, a prominent Islamic scholar, will receive a Doctor of Laws (LL.D) Honoris Causa. He has written over 500 books and pamphlets and has attended numerous prestigious centers of Islamic scholarship and learning worldwide.
The honorary degrees are in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields and their impact on the global community. Both individuals have accepted the honor, which will be conferred upon them at the convocation ceremony.
The ABU Governing Council approved the conferment of the honorary degrees at its 207th (Special) meeting held on January 8, 2025, following the recommendation of the Honorary Degrees Committee and the endorsement of the University Senate.¹
