Aisha Buhari Begins Construction of Computer Science Complex to Boost Tech Education in Northern Nigeria

Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has launched the construction of a Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, funded by proceeds from her book and dedicated to the late Muhammadu Buhari to advance technology education and innovation.

The project, which she said would be financed with proceeds from her book, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, will be named after the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, upon completion.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Aisha Buhari described investment in technology education as critical to Nigeria’s future, noting that the new facility would help prepare young people with the digital skills required in an increasingly technology-driven world.

She also urged students to remain focused on their ambitions despite challenges, encouraging them not to allow criticism or setbacks to derail their dreams.

“Dirty water doesn’t stop a plant from growing, so don’t let negative thoughts stop your progress,” she said.

Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, described the project as a significant milestone in the institution’s development, saying the complex would strengthen the university’s capacity to train students in computer science and other technology-related disciplines.

Representing Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, the Deputy Governor, Faruk Lawal Jobe, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with the state’s efforts to equip young people with digital and technical competencies needed in today’s economy.

According to the university, the Computer Science Complex will provide modern facilities for teaching, research and innovation in areas including computer science, software engineering and cybersecurity, further positioning the institution to meet the growing demand for technology education in Nigeria.
