Akinbode Inducted into Nigerian Academy of Letters for Outstanding Contributions to Scholarship

Prof. Joseph Oluwole Akinbode, MNAL, a Professor in the Department of English Studies, Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), has been inducted as a member of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) in recognition of his outstanding scholarship and contributions to the study of English Language, Literature and General Linguistics.

The distinguished academic was inducted during the 28th Convocation, Induction of New Members and Investiture of Regular and Honorary Fellows of the Academy, held at the J.F. Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The conferment of the fellowship marks another significant milestone in Prof. Akinbode’s academic career and further underscores his contributions to scholarship in language, literature and related fields.

The Nigerian Academy of Letters is the apex, non-political and autonomous scholarly body for the Arts, Culture and Literature in Nigeria. The Academy promotes the highest standards of scholarship, preserves indigenous languages and cultural heritage, and provides intellectual and moral guidance on issues of national importance.

Prof. Akinbode’s induction also represents a notable achievement for Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, reflecting the quality of scholarship and intellectual excellence being nurtured within the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of TASFUED, Prof. Samuel Oladipo, MNPA, CMCPN, MCAN, FIELPN, congratulated Prof. Akinbode on his admission into the Academy.

In a congratulatory letter to the new member, the Vice-Chancellor described the recognition as a well-deserved testament to Prof. Akinbode’s outstanding scholarship and significant contributions to the study of English Language, Literature and General Linguistics.

Prof. Oladipo noted that the honour was not only a personal achievement for Prof. Akinbode but also a source of pride to TASFUED, adding that his membership of the Academy demonstrated the quality of scholarship and intellectual excellence associated with the University.

He observed that the achievement would further enhance the visibility and reputation of TASFUED within Nigeria’s academic community while creating opportunities for the University to contribute more meaningfully to national discourse on language, literature, culture and education.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that Prof. Akinbode’s attainment would serve as an inspiration to other members of staff and students to pursue excellence in research, scholarship and professional service.
