AKSU Suspends SUG President Over Alleged Misconduct

The management of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has suspended the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Mr. Elijah Ekanem, over alleged gross misconduct.

According to a suspension letter dated Thursday, October 2, 2025, and signed by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo, the decision followed Ekanem’s alleged forceful collection of a car key from the driver attached to his office as SUG President, as well as giving false information against constituted authorities.

The Dean noted that several efforts — both verbal and written — had been made to caution the student leader, but all proved unsuccessful, leading the university to take disciplinary action in accordance with the provisions of the institution’s Students’ Handbook.

Copies of the suspension notice have been forwarded to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Academic Affairs, Chief Security Officer, and the Head of Department of Public Administration for necessary action.
