The Students' Union Government of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced the indefinite suspension of its former President, Mr. Elijah Ekanem, following a directive from the University Senate.

The Senate, during a meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, resolved to suspend Mr. Ekanem as a student based on recommendations from the Student Disciplinary Committee. The action followed his refusal to respond to invitations to appear before the committee regarding allegations raised against him.

The suspension affects Mr. Ekanem in his capacity as a student, which, under the Students’ Union Constitution, automatically renders him ineligible to hold elective office. Consequently, the Presidency of the Students’ Union has been declared vacant.
