ATBU Mourns Former Vice-Chancellor and NITEL MD, Prof. Buba Bajoga

The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has officially announced the passing of its second Vice-Chancellor, Professor Buba G. Bajoga, a titan of Nigerian academia and the telecommunications industry.

Professor Bajoga was a distinguished scholar of Electrical Engineering whose visionary leadership during the university’s foundational years helped solidify its reputation as a premier center for technology and innovation in West Africa.

Academic Excellence: As the second Vice-Chancellor of ATBU, he presided over critical phases of institutional growth, infrastructure development, and academic accreditation.

Industrial Leadership: Beyond the classroom, Prof. Bajoga served with distinction as the Managing Director of the defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), where he played a pivotal role in the evolution of Nigeria’s communication infrastructure.

Professional Impact: He was widely respected as a mentor to generations of engineers and a staunch advocate for the integration of technical education with industrial needs. 

The University community, in a statement expressing deep sorrow, described his death as a monumental loss to the nation. Funeral arrangements and memorial services are expected to be announced by the family and university management in due course.
