ATBU Ranked Second in Nigeria for Engineering in 2026 Scimago Report

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has been ranked the second-best university in Nigeria for engineering in the 2026 edition of the Scimago Institutions Ranking, as reported by StatiSense.

The ranking evaluates universities based on research performance, innovation output, and societal impact, placing ATBU ahead of several prominent institutions nationwide. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology claimed the top spot, while Covenant University secured third place.

Other universities featured among Nigeria’s top engineering institutions include University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Bowen University, University of Calabar, University of Ilorin, Landmark University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and University of Benin.

The report also highlights regional trends, noting that Nigeria’s South West region accounts for nearly 42 percent of the top engineering universities, with the South South region following at 16.7 percent.

ATBU’s ranking underscores its longstanding reputation as a leading institution for engineering education and research, reinforcing its position as a hub for innovation and technological advancement in Nigeria.
