In a significant move to tackle criminal elements operating within student communities, the Bauchi State Police Command recently apprehended a 300-level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

The suspect, identified as Atim Emmanuel, aged 23, was found in possession of a firearm and cartridge.

The arrest occurred on December 11th, 2023, when the student was intercepted leaving the university campus. Upon a thorough search, law enforcement discovered a locally made revolver pistol and a cartridge in his possession.

During interrogation, the apprehended student admitted to obtaining the firearm from an individual named Zadog, who leased it to him for two academic semesters at the cost of twelve thousand naira (N12,000.00). He claimed to have procured the weapon for self-protection, citing security concerns and the need to defend himself against potential criminal attacks.

Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed Musa psc has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. The objective is to unravel the motives behind the acquisition of the firearm and ascertain whether it has been used in any criminal activities. Upon completion of the discreet investigation, appropriate legal actions will be taken, and the suspect will face prosecution accordingly.
