BUK Students Shine in International Engagements and Competitions

Four students from the Department of Information and Media Studies—Amatulmu’izzu Abdullahi Abdulrahman, Mustapha Haruna Abu, Ilya Nanpha Luka, and Ramota Issa Bisola—have been competitively selected as ambassadors for the MANARA Centre for Coexistence and Dialogue.

Through the Manara Youth Coexistence Initiative, they are actively promoting tolerance, coexistence, and mutual understanding via research, educational media campaigns, and community partnerships. The students have participated in related programs held in Dubai and Kenya.

Similarly, Jiddah Abubakar Muhammad and Patience Ojochogwu Ihiabe from the Department of Adult Education and Community Services took part in the International Association for Community Development’s April 2025 discussion on “Students’ Learning and Application of Community Development in Africa.” The event featured participants from South Africa and Kenya under the theme: "Roots of Hope, Seeds of Change: Young African Voices in Community Development."

In sports, Shukurat Abdussalam from the Department of Physics won a gold medal at the World University Games Trials in taekwondo and will be representing Nigeria in Germany at the global event later this year.

 

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas commended the students for making Bayero University, Kano proud. He added that the University Management would continue to provide an enabling environment for students to excel in various aspects. He made this commendation during the 60th Congregation Meeting held on 24th April, 2025.
