BUK VC Prof. Sagir Adamu Praised for Pioneering Fire Safety Efforts

The Kano State Comptroller of the Federal Fire Service, Engineer Kazeem O. Sholadoye, has commended the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, for his pioneering efforts in fire safety. Sholadoye described the VC as a "pacesetter" and noted that BUK was the first academic institution in Nigeria to embrace fire safety.

The Comptroller praised the VC for initiating a fire summit and campus fire safety program, which he said was the first of its kind in any Nigerian institution. He also solicited the university's approval to launch a volunteer campus fire service, which would serve as a model for other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Sholadoye lamented the increasing rate of fire outbreaks in tertiary institutions in Kano State and disclosed that the command had initiated a fire safety club, which included several institutions. He proposed the Director of Security at BUK to serve as the patron of the club.

The VC, Prof. Abbas, thanked the team for their visit and initiatives, and appreciated the Federal Fire Service's efforts during a recent fire incident at the university library. He expressed the university's willingness to partner with the Federal Fire Service.
