COOU Abuja Alumni Chapter Hosts Vice Chancellor, Reaffirms Support for University’s Vision

The Abuja Chapter of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Alumni Association hosted the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, at a dinner reception held at the City View Restaurant, Abuja.

The event provided alumni with a rare opportunity to engage directly with the University’s chief ambassador, affectionately called “Mama COOU.”

The gathering drew a large turnout of graduates residing in Abuja, who described Prof. Omenugha as the “Chief Marketer” of COOU. Their enthusiasm was evident, reflecting optimism and renewed commitment to the University.

In his remarks, the President of the Abuja Chapter, Engr. Emezuom Ugochukwu, praised the Vice Chancellor’s leadership and her capacity to elevate COOU’s global profile. He noted that within 19 months in office, her visibility and proactive engagement had transformed perceptions of the University. “With Prof. Omenugha as Vice Chancellor, we no longer need to explain our University. Her visibility has put COOU on the map. We are proud to say we come from COOU,” he said.

Engr. Ugochukwu further highlighted the impact of the Vice Chancellor’s 3Vs Agenda—Values, Viability, and Visibility—and expressed confidence in the University’s continued growth under her leadership. Alumni in attendance echoed this sentiment, praising her student-centered approach and bold declaration: “If you exploit my student, I will rise up and defend them.” They pledged unwavering support for her vision to position COOU as a globally competitive institution.

Responding, Prof. Omenugha delivered a 29-minute address in which she celebrated the alumni as the pride of the University. She emphasized the collective mission to elevate COOU into the ranks of the world’s top 500 universities, anchored on the 3Vs agenda. The Vice Chancellor stressed that her visit to Abuja was focused on strategic engagements to seek partnerships, collaborations, and linkages to accelerate the University’s growth, and expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes achieved.

Prof. Omenugha also apologized for any past lapses affecting alumni and reassured them of a new era of accountability and excellence under her leadership. The evening concluded with pledges of donations and offers of employment opportunities for COOU students from attending alumni.
