Corps Members Sensitized on FOI Act

Mrs. Seun Osinoiki, Desk Officer for the Freedom of Information CDS group has sensitized 2023 Batch "B" Stream II corps members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, on their rights to information today. The FoI Act, enacted on May 28, 2011, grants citizens the right to access information from public and private institutions providing public services.

Mrs. Seun Osinoiki, Desk Officer for the Freedom of Information CDS group has sensitized 2023 Batch "B" Stream II corps members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, on their rights to information today. The FoI Act, enacted on May 28, 2011, grants citizens the right to access information from public and private institutions providing public services. 

Myschoolnews reports Mr. Osinoiki introduced the corps members to the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) CDS, a Community Development Service (CDS) group that aims to educate Nigerians about their information-seeking rights. She highlighted the potential impact corps members could make by joining this CDS group in their host communities.

Building on this, Mrs. Omolola Aladesoun, the head of public relations on camp, expanded on the corps members' rights under the FoI Act. She also clarified certain exemptions, such as classified national defense information and private data, including health-related details.

Mrs Aladesoun concluded her talk by encouraging corps members to speak up if they believed their skills were being underutilized by their employers.

 

The lecture aimed to equip corps members with a clear understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the FoI Act, promoting civic engagement and a sense of empowerment.
