DUFUTH Welcomes Professor Obumneme Ezeanosike as New Head of Paediatrics

David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) has announced the appointment of Professor Obumneme Ezeanosike as the new Head of the Department of Paediatrics, succeeding Dr. Ogonna Nwankwo.

A Chief Consultant Paediatrician and Professor of Paediatrics & Neonatal Medicine, Professor Ezeanosike brings a wealth of academic and clinical expertise. His credentials include postgraduate training in Paediatric Nutrition from Boston University School of Medicine (USA), an MSc in Neonatology via the Commonwealth Scholarship, an MPH from Ebonyi State University, and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Nigeria.

Professor Ezeanosike has held multiple leadership roles, including former Head of Paediatrics and pioneer Head of Pharmacology at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. He is also President-Elect of the Nigerian Society of Neonatal Medicine (NISONM), former NISONM Secretary, South East Regional Coordinator for the National Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and National Course Director for the Federal Ministry of Health’s Newborn & Child Health Programme.

Renowned for his expertise in neonatal outcomes, paediatric infectious diseases, newborn resuscitation, biostatistics, systematic reviews, and clinical epidemiology, Professor Ezeanosike’s influence spans both clinical practice and academic mentorship.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Uzoma M. Agwu, extended a warm welcome to Professor Ezeanosike and wished him success in leading the department toward continued excellence in paediatric healthcare and education.
