Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, recently held its first induction ceremony for Medical Laboratory Science graduates, marking a milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The event saw the institution and the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria jointly honoring Miss Praise Ogundare, a first-class graduate with a CGPA of 4.84, for her outstanding academic performance.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Professor Thadius Ijadunola, commended the inductees and urged them to uphold professionalism in their careers. He advised them to prioritize service to humanity over monetary gains and to always remain connected to their alma mater while caring for their parents' welfare.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Professor Tosan Erhabor, emphasized the importance of discipline and ethical responsibility in the profession. He warned that the Council would not tolerate substandard practices, as such could lead to the withdrawal of licenses. He further noted that medical laboratory scientists play a critical role in demystifying health sector misconceptions, diagnosing diseases, and advancing medical research.

Dr. Omotola Dada, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, highlighted the global demand for medical laboratory scientists. He charged the graduates to embrace unity, collaboration, and professionalism in their practice. He reaffirmed that Elizade University had equipped them with the necessary entrepreneurial and innovative skills to excel in the field.

Delivering the keynote lecture on Ethics and Professionalism in Biomedical Science: Upholding Integrity, Advancing Excellence, and Safeguarding Public Trust, Professor Kolawole Oyedeji, Director of the Centre for Research, Ethics, and Bioethics Training at the University of Lagos, stressed the need for character, trustworthiness, responsibility, and civic duty among medical laboratory scientists. He underscored that technical expertise alone would not guarantee success without ethical conduct.

Dr. Folorunsho Dada, Acting Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Elizade University, advised the inductees to embrace continuous learning and seek professional development opportunities. He encouraged them to recognize the responsibilities that come with their profession and strive for excellence.

The induction ceremony also featured graduates from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, further highlighting the significance of the event in advancing medical laboratory science education in Nigeria.
