Elizade University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oguntunde, Receives OWSD-FUTA Leadership Award
Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has recorded another significant milestone in its leadership recognition profile as its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Philip O. Oguntunde, received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), FUTA Branch.

The award was presented during the 15th anniversary celebration of OWSD-FUTA, held to honour excellence in leadership and contributions to science, education, and institutional development across Nigeria’s academic landscape.
According to OWSD-FUTA President, Dr. Adeleke Mosunmola Lydia, Professor Oguntunde was selected in recognition of his visionary leadership, commitment to institutional growth, and sustained impact on higher education. She noted that his administration at Elizade University has strengthened academic standards, promoted innovation, and enhanced human capital development.
She described him as a leader whose influence extends beyond the university, emphasizing that his approach to governance reflects integrity, innovation, and a consistent focus on excellence in both staff and student development.
The event attracted prominent academics, researchers, and policymakers from across the country, with discussions centered on advancing scientific innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaborative research in developing economies.

A keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Ayo Olajuyigbe of the University of Fortune, Igbotako, who spoke on the theme “Scientific Excellence and Relevance: From Vision to Venture.” He urged researchers to translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions that address societal and economic challenges.
Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, called for stronger collaboration among women in science, noting the need to address systemic challenges affecting their participation and advancement in scientific fields. She emphasized resilience, cooperation, and sustained excellence as key drivers of progress.
Senior officials of Elizade University, including the Registrar, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, the Bursar, Mr. Olusegun Ajeigbe, and the University Librarian, Dr. Ayooluwa Aregbesola, described the award as a reflection of the institution’s growing reputation and leadership strength.

They noted that the recognition reinforces Elizade University’s position as an emerging centre of academic excellence committed to research, innovation, and global relevance.
The honour adds to Professor Oguntunde’s leadership profile and further highlights the university’s continued efforts to strengthen its academic and institutional standing within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
