FASU Lagos 2024: 21st NUXART Exhibition Attracts Arts Enthusiasts at UNILAG
The 21st Nigerian Undergraduates' Exhibition of Arts (NUXART) is being held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as part of the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games (FASU) Lagos 2024, co-hosted by UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU).
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is currently hosting the 21st Nigerian Undergraduates' Exhibition of Arts (NUXART), which has drawn a large crowd of arts enthusiasts to the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose Hall. The exhibition is one of the key side events at the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games (FASU) Lagos 2024, co-hosted by UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU).
NUXART, organized by the Centre for Culture and Environment Promotion, has been a prominent platform for showcasing the artistic talents of student artists from across Africa and beyond for the past 21 years. Dr. Patrick Ifechukwude Okpah, OON, President of the Centre and a member of the FASU Strategic Committee, highlighted that NUXART has been held globally, offering young artists opportunities to develop self-reliance, explore entrepreneurship, and gain exposure to business prospects in the arts industry.
According to Dr. Okpah, "NUXART gives student artists a rare opportunity to become renowned for their talents, and through this, the monetary value of their works increases. They become self-reliant and job providers even before the completion of their studies."
This year’s exhibition, themed "Sports and Culture as Catalyst for African Unity," features a wide range of art pieces, including sculptures, paintings, and portraits of notable figures such as Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of LASU, as well as Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, President of the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports.
On Monday, September 23, 2024, UNILAG Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola visited the exhibition and commended the artists for their exceptional work. She urged art lovers to visit the exhibition to support the artists and appreciate their creativity.
The NUXART exhibition is ongoing at the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose Hall C, UNILAG, and remains open to the public for viewing and purchase of artworks.
