Father and Daughter Make History Graduating Together from Buffalo State University

In an extraordinary achievement, Cesar Galarza and his daughter, Clarimar, have set a remarkable record by graduating together from Buffalo State University in New York on the same day. This unique father-daughter duo earned their bachelor's degrees simultaneously, marking a testament to their dedication and familial bond.

Cesar Galarza, reflecting on this significant milestone, shared that he decided to return to school nine years after relocating to New York with his family. Overcoming language challenges—English being both his and his daughter's second language—Cesar pursued an associate degree in Social Science before achieving the remarkable feat of obtaining his bachelor's degree alongside Clarimar at Buffalo State College.

While acknowledging the difficulties faced during their academic journey, especially amid the challenges of the pandemic, Cesar emphasized the crucial role played by his wife of 24 years and his 15-year-old son, who assisted him in studying and proofreading papers.

"We went through school during the toughest time, but we overcame," Cesar remarked, expressing gratitude for the support of his family. He and his daughter, Clarimar, developed a routine of attending school together, sharing rides, and even having virtual classes during the pandemic.

Despite the challenges, Cesar expressed his admiration for Clarimar, stating, "She did better than me. I did pretty good. But she always did better than me."

Looking ahead, Cesar, who works as a pastor in his community, plans to pursue his master's degree. Meanwhile, Clarimar is contemplating her next steps. Offering advice to other parents or adults considering returning to school, Cesar emphasized that it is never too late. "It’s always possible. I’m 41 years old, and I did it," he encouraged.
