Federal Government Allocates ₦48 Billion to Upgrade Engineering Faculties in 12 Universities

The Federal Government has approved a ₦48 billion intervention fund to rehabilitate and modernize engineering workshops and laboratories across 12 selected universities. The initiative, announced on Monday, March 2, 2026, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical industrial competence. 

Each of the 12 beneficiary institutions will receive ₦4 billion to upgrade existing facilities or construct new workshops equipped with industry-relevant, cutting-edge technology.

The 12 beneficiary institutions, covering all six geopolitical zones, include a mix of Federal Universities of Technology and state universities:

ATBU Bauchi, Nigerian Army University, African Aviation and Aerospace University, Shehu Shagari University of Education, Enugu State University (SUMAS), Delta State University (DELSU), and University of Ilesa. 

Implemented via TETFund, the project is monitored by a committee chaired by Ali Rabiu, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Additionally, ₦20 billion is earmarked in the 2026 guidelines for further nationwide upgrades, supporting the "Renewed Hope" agenda to produce industry-ready engineers.
