Federal Government Appoints University on the Niger Provost, Prof. Onwudiegwu, to Strategic Health Reform Panel

 In a major development for Nigeria’s medical education sector, Professor Uche Onwudiegwu has been appointed as a member of the Strategic Training & Reform Implementation Advisory Panel (STRIAP). The appointment is part of the STRIDE for MEGA Schools Initiative, a flagship program under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare aimed at modernizing health training nationwide. 

The appointment was approved by the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare and will be implemented through the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). It serves as a national recognition of Professor Onwudiegwu’s extensive contributions to medical research and health system strengthening.

A veteran in the field, he is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the President of the Nigerian Association of Medical Educators (NASME). His career includes fellowships at Harvard University and Uppsala University, as well as extensive technical consultancy for the MDCN on medical curriculum development.

The University on the Niger has congratulated Professor Onwudiegwu, noting that this national assignment reflects the institution's growing influence in shaping the future of healthcare and medical training in Nigeria.
