Federal Polytechnic Bida Tightens Security as Off-Campus Vigilante Patrol Operations Begin
The management of Federal Polytechnic Bida has announced the commencement of routine vigilante patrol operations within and around the institution's environment as part of efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of students and residents.
According to a notice issued by the Directorate of Security, the patrol exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the local vigilante group and took effect from Monday, June 8, 2026.

Students residing off-campus have been advised to adhere strictly to the new security guidelines introduced to support the operation and promote a safer learning environment.
Under the new directive, all students are expected to return to their respective rooms and lodges on or before midnight. The institution also urged students to avoid unnecessary late-night movements in order to prevent confrontations with security personnel conducting patrols.
The notice further stated that students who may have genuine reasons to be outdoors during late hours should always carry a valid means of identification, preferably their Polytechnic Identity Card, to avoid embarrassment or misunderstandings during routine security checks.
In addition, students have been encouraged to cooperate fully with members of the security team and the local vigilante group as they carry out their duties aimed at protecting lives and property within the Polytechnic community.
The Directorate of Security also called on students to play an active role in maintaining security by providing timely and accurate information and reporting suspicious individuals, activities, or any security concerns that could help curb crime within and around the institution.
The Polytechnic emphasized that the cooperation of the Students' Union Government (SUG) and the entire student body remains crucial in ensuring a safe, peaceful, and secure academic environment for all members of the institution.
The security initiative is expected to enhance safety measures around Federal Polytechnic Bida and reduce incidents of crime and insecurity affecting students living both on and off campus.
