The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, has been commended for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare services within the institution.

The commendation came from the Director of Health Services, Muhammad Umar Babi, during a send-off ceremony organised in honour of the outgoing NYSC medical doctor, Dr. Blessing Person Adom. The event also marked Umar Babi's anniversary as head of the Directorate of Health Services following its upgrade from the Polytechnic Clinic.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director said the institution's health facility has undergone a remarkable transformation under the Rector's leadership, evolving from a basic sickbay into a full-fledged Directorate that now provides 24-hour healthcare services.

According to him, the Directorate currently operates key units, including the Out-Patient Department, OPD, Laboratory, Medical Records, and Pharmacy, significantly improving access to quality healthcare for staff and students.

Umar Babi attributed the progress to the Rector's consistent support and appealed for the provision of additional medical equipment and facilities to enable the Directorate attain the status of a comprehensive health centre.

He disclosed that the institution is awaiting approval after an assessment conducted by the Yobe State Healthcare and Health-Related Facilities Inspection and Monitoring Agency, YOHFIMA.

Representing the Rector, the Dean of Student Affairs, Babagana Kachallah, presented gifts to the outgoing NYSC doctor, Dr. Blessing Person Adom, in recognition of her dedication and selfless service throughout her national assignment at the Polytechnic.

Kachallah commended Dr. Adom for her professionalism and commitment, while assuring staff that the institution's management would continue supporting the upgrade of the Directorate to meet YOHFIMA standards and enhance staff welfare.

In her remarks, Dr. Adom thanked the management and staff of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu for providing a welcoming and supportive environment throughout her service year, describing the institution as "a home away from home."

The Registrar, Muazu Aliyu Iliyasu, represented by the Deputy Registrar, Council and General Administration, Adamu Adamu, also praised the Director of Health Services for maintaining the facility in excellent condition. He commended the outgoing corps member for her professionalism and lasting contributions to the institution while applauding the Rector's commitment to strengthening healthcare services.

Other speakers, including Umar Saidu, Blessing Uje, and Maryam Mohammed, paid glowing tributes to Dr. Adom, highlighting her dedication to duty, effective communication skills, and cordial relationship with colleagues.

The ceremony concluded with an inspection of the Directorate's facilities by representatives of the Rector and the Registrar, alongside other dignitaries, reaffirming Federal Polytechnic Damaturu's commitment to providing quality healthcare services for staff, students, and the surrounding community.
