From Academic Withdrawal to Academic Excellence: The Inspiring Resilience of Akano Abisola Elizabeth

The story of Akano Abisola Elizabeth has emerged as a powerful testament to resilience and academic recovery within the Nigerian university system. Once forced to withdraw from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 2018 due to academic challenges, Elizabeth has successfully rewritten her narrative, graduating as the Best Graduating Student in her department at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

In 2018, Elizabeth faced a significant professional and personal setback when her Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) fell below 1.0, leading to her mandatory withdrawal from OAU. Rather than succumbing to the weight of the failure, she chose to restart her academic journey.

In 2019, she sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) again, securing admission into the University of Lagos to study Education Economics.

Attributing her success to a combination of faith, rigorous discipline, and mental fortitude, Elizabeth’s journey serves as an institutional example of how early setbacks do not dictate final outcomes. Her story has resonated across the academic community, highlighting the importance of grit and the capacity for self-reinvention.

Today, she stands not as a former dropout, but as a beacon of excellence, proving that with determination, a painful setback can indeed serve as the foundation for an unprecedented comeback.
