The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Ogoni, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic (Kenpoly) to promote academic collaboration, resource sharing, and sustainable institutional growth.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Kenpoly, the Vice Chancellor of FUET, Professor Chinedu Mmom, described the agreement as a historic step toward strengthening higher education and addressing environmental challenges in Ogoniland, Rivers State, the Niger Delta, and beyond.
Professor Mmom highlighted FUET’s unique mandate as Nigeria’s first specialized university of environment and technology, created to pioneer innovative solutions to environmental degradation. He stressed that partnerships such as this are vital, as the institution prepares for its maiden academic session.

“Our University does not yet have all the resources required for a smooth take-off. That is why we have come to our sister institution, Kenpoly, to support us in areas such as manpower, equipment, and laboratory facilities. This collaboration will enable us to stand firmly on our feet and will continue even after the University becomes fully established,” Professor Mmom said.
He further explained that FUET will employ hands-on technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotics, to address environmental issues such as oil spills and gas exploration impacts.

Earlier, the Rector of Kenpoly, Engr. Dr. Ledum Suanu Gwarah, welcomed the FUET delegation, describing the University’s establishment as a fulfilment of the Ogoni people’s long-standing aspirations.

“We have suffered environmental degradation for decades. The establishment of FUET is a welcome development that will provide practical solutions to the problems of the Ogoni people and Rivers State at large. As an institution, we are ready to support FUET in every possible way. Your success is our success,” Dr. Gwarah stated.

The event concluded with the formal signing of the MoU, symbolizing a partnership that is expected to foster academic excellence, knowledge exchange, and mutual institutional growth.
