FUNAAB INHURD Screens Prospective Pre-Degree, JUPEB Students for 2026/2027 Session

The Institute of Human Resources Development (INHURD), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has commenced the physical screening of prospective Pre-Degree and Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) students seeking admission for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The screening exercise, which commenced on September 8, 2026, at the Prof. Olusola Oyewole Lecture Theatre, is designed to assess the academic preparedness, backgrounds and individual circumstances of prospective students ahead of admission.

Speaking on the rationale for the initiative, the Director, INHURD, Prof. Sheriff Adewuyi, said the exercise was introduced to enable the Institute to determine the suitability and preparedness of prospective students before admission, rather than discovering potential academic challenges after enrolment.

According to him, the physical assessment would provide an opportunity to ascertain the candidates’ academic standing, particularly in view of concerns over the reliability and authenticity of some external examination results.

Prof. Adewuyi explained that the outcome of the screening would enable the Institute to categorise prospective students according to their levels of academic preparedness and identify those who are academically strong, average or may require additional support.

He added that the assessment would guide the development of appropriate remedial, reinforcement or retraining programmes for candidates who may need further academic assistance.

The Director stressed that the initiative was consistent with INHURD’s mandate as a human resources development institution, noting that understanding the academic backgrounds, capabilities and needs of prospective students was essential to providing effective educational support.

To ensure an orderly and efficient process, the prospective students were divided into five groups based on their serial numbers. The arrangement, he said, was designed to facilitate smooth coordination and effective utilisation of time and personnel.

Beyond academic assessment, Prof. Adewuyi disclosed that the screening interview would also examine the personal and educational backgrounds of candidates.

He said candidates would be asked questions relating to when they completed secondary school, their activities since leaving school and the persons responsible for sponsoring their education.

Such information, he explained, would enable the Institute to gain a broader understanding of the circumstances of each prospective student and identify issues that may require attention before admission.

Prof. Adewuyi expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen INHURD’s admission process, enhance the maintenance of academic standards and enable the Institute to better understand and respond to the academic and developmental needs of students admitted for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.
