NELFUND MD Akintunde Sawyerr Rejects Claims of Financial Misappropriation, Affirms Transparency in Student Loan Disbursement

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, has dismissed allegations of financial misappropriation levelled against the agency.

Sawyerr said NELFUND remains committed to transparency, accountability and an impartial application process in the disbursement of student loans to eligible Nigerian students across tertiary institutions.

He noted that the Fund has put in place clear guidelines and verification mechanisms to ensure that loan disbursements are made directly to institutions and to beneficiaries without interference.

According to him, all applications are processed through the NELFUND portal based on set criteria, and approvals are granted without bias to ensure that students from all backgrounds have equal access to the facility.

The NELFUND boss urged members of the public to disregard claims suggesting mismanagement of funds, adding that the agency is working closely with relevant oversight bodies to maintain integrity in its operations.

He further reiterated that the student loan scheme was established to ease the financial burden on students and their families, and to expand access to higher education in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Sawyerr assured that NELFUND will continue to publish regular updates on disbursements and engage stakeholders to build public trust in the programme.
