FUEZ Makes History as Pioneer Undergraduate Students Matriculate for 2025/2026 Session

The Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ), has conducted its maiden matriculation ceremony for newly admitted undergraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The event was held at Dr. M. I. Maccido Hall of the institution on Wednesday, 15th April, 2026.

Speaking during the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, congratulated the newly admitted students for having the rare privilege of gaining admission as the pioneer undergraduate students of the upgraded institution. Professor Bunkure urged the matriculating students to reflect the pride and expectations placed upon them by adopting good behaviour and striving for academic excellence.

He stated that the nascent University of Education has provided a robust and user-friendly university portal to transform academic and administrative processes through efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.

Professor Yahaya Bunkure also highlighted the ongoing renovation of the administrative block, university library, and Faculty of Nigerian and Foreign Languages as some of his achievements.

He disclosed that the university has 43 newly promoted professors and 15 readers, recently approved by the Governing Council of the institution.

Professor Bunkure further admonished the students to shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and drug abuse. He urged them to abide by the rules and regulations of the university.

In his remarks, the former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, advised the matriculating students to familiarise themselves with the “Handbook,” which contains the dos and don’ts. He also encouraged them to be of good character and pursue academic excellence to become successful future leaders.

During the event, the matriculating students took the oath of allegiance, administered by the Legal Directorate of the university.

The event was attended by representatives of the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, the Director of JAMB Kaduna Zonal Office, the District Head of Waje, the Chief Imam of Danja Mosque, a representative of the Archbishop of Wusasa Diocese, and members of paramilitary formations.

Principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Balarabe; the Acting Registrar, Malam Shehu Iya Sa’idu; the Acting Bursar, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Aliyu; the Acting Librarian, Alhaji Tijjani Abdul; as well as Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments (HODs), Heads of Units (HUs), staff, and students, were also in attendance.
