FUHSO EDC Concludes Business Start-Up Training
The Entrepreneurship Development Centre, EDC, of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has concluded a three-day Business Start-Up and Incubation Training for staff and students of the University.
The training, held from Monday to Wednesday, 30th September 2026, at Lecture Hall B, Otada Campus, was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills for identifying business opportunities, developing viable ideas and building sustainable enterprises.
The Day Two theme, “Entrepreneurship Success Tips,” featured a presentation by Dr. Dele Balogun on feasibility studies and reports. He explained the essential components of a feasibility study and outlined a recommended structure for preparing a feasibility report. Participants also undertook a practical exercise in developing mini feasibility studies.
Another facilitator, entrepreneurship educator and management consultant from the University of Jos, Professor E.S. Echu, described entrepreneurship as an economic response to pressure, noting that new ventures create not only commercial value but also practical solutions to economic and social challenges.
Professor Echu explained that successful start-ups evolve from identifying unresolved problems to developing, testing and validating products or services before pursuing sustainable and scalable growth.

According to him, start-ups transform unmet needs into new sources of value and must earn customer confidence through product performance, market acceptance and satisfaction. His presentation further focused on healthcare start-ups, challenges confronting the sector and possible approaches to addressing them, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.
The final day, themed “Consolidating Success,” featured another presentation by Professor Echu titled “Feasibility Study Report: Healthcare Business Start-Up Action in Nigeria.” He examined critical success factors for start-ups, personality traits of successful entrepreneurs and skills required for effective entrepreneurship, concluding with practical financial management tips, including the Five Cs of Financial Management.
The training ended with an evaluation session where participants reflected on knowledge and skills acquired.
Speaking at the closing, the Acting Director of the EDC, Dr. Emmanuel Ogbenjuwa, appreciated University Management, TETFund, facilitators and participants for contributions to the success of the training.
Dr. Ogbenjuwa urged participants to translate knowledge into practical action, stressing the importance of starting small and growing gradually, and encouraged them to submit business ideas to the Centre for consideration and possible support.
Certificates were presented to participants, marking formal completion of the programme.
The training underscored FUHSO’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, self-reliance and sustainable enterprise development among staff and students.
