FULafia CLED Trains Primefield Academy Teachers on Modern Teaching Methods

The Centre for Local Economic Development, CLED, Federal University of Lafia, FULafia, has taken its capacity-building efforts beyond the University community with a one-day training workshop for teachers of Primefield Academy, Lafia.

The workshop, sponsored by the former Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, focused on strengthening teachers' professional skills and equipping them with modern approaches to teaching and learning.

The event was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Ilemona Adofu.

Declaring the workshop open, Professor Adofu commended Abdul Rahman and CLED for initiating the programme, describing continuous training as essential to improving the quality of education.

He urged the teachers to make good use of the opportunity by learning new approaches and exploring practical ways of integrating appropriate tools and technologies into their teaching.

He said that "a school is not defined only by its physical structures, internet facilities or library resources, but by the quality of the people who stand before children and guide them towards achieving their potential."

Professor A. Giwa facilitated the first session, titled: "Beyond Teaching: Building a Growth Mindset, Personal Development and Professional Effectiveness among Teachers." The session focused on personal growth and the need for teachers to continually develop themselves professionally.

The second session, delivered by the Provost, College of Health Sciences, FULafia, Professor Joseph Dlama Zira, examined "Artificial Intelligence in Education: What Teachers Need to Know and What Learners Should Be Taught for the Future."

The session provided participants with insights into the growing role of artificial intelligence in education and the need for teachers and learners to understand how emerging technologies can be used responsibly and effectively.

Speaking at the close of the workshop, the Director of CLED, Professor Jude Onwuka, assessed the programme and reviewed the learning outcomes.

Certificates were presented to the participating teachers at the end of the event.

In a vote of thanks, the Head of School, Mr. Mohammed Awwal Yakubu, expressed appreciation to Abdul Rahman, CLED and other partners for supporting the initiative.
