The award, tagged: Award of Excellence, was presented to the Directorate during a maiden event, End of Year Get-Together Party, orgarnised by the University to mark the end of the year.

Presenting the award to the Head of the directorate, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, said that the award was in recognition of the commitment and hard work of staff in the directorate, pointing that the staff have made immense contributions to the development of the University.

Abdul Rahman urged the directorate’s staff not to relent in their efforts and remain committed to the task of delivering the kinds of services that they were noted for.

He said: “The award is meant to encourage you to do more and to inform you that you have done well and you truly deserved commendations from the University Administration.”

Others awarded alongside the Information and Public Relations Directorate included the Human Resources, Sports, Students Affairs and Environment Safety directorates.

The occasion, which was the first of its kind in FULafia, Abdul Rahman said it was organised to end the year on a very favourable and joyous note, recalling that 2022 was, indeed, a hectic year for public universities’ staff in Nigeria.

He recalled, specifically, that Universities’ workers endured a very long period of industrial actions embarked upon by the university-based unions which led the Federal Government to decline payment of salaries of workers for many months.

Abdul Rahman, however, appealed to the workers of FULafia not to allow that development to diminish their desire to serve the University, saying that there is joy and other forms of reward associated with the service of humanity.

Abdul Rahman thanked the staff for commitment, emphasising that they deserved to be recognised and rewarded for their loyalty, commitment and diligence to duty.

While dolling cash to some deserving members of staff, the vice-chancellor saluted them for the individual sacrifice they made to ensure continuity of the system during the period of industrial action in the University.

He advised staff to shun all forms of nonchalant attitudes, calling on them to stick to the University's core-values, namely, Integrity, Innovation and Excellence, as their guiding principles.

The staff who went away with the sum N50,000, each, were Mallam Adamu Shehu Usman, a gardiner, Barrister Ignatius Effiom, the Head of Human Resources, and Mr Saidu Bawa, Admission Officer.

The event was attended by all members of staff of the University, who were allowed to freely express their view on how the University was being administered by the Abdul Rahman-led Management Team.
