MAPOLY Rector Commends Staff Resilience, Seeks Government Support to Tackle Institutional Challenges

The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Arc. Dr. Koye Jolaoso, has described the staff of the institution as strong pillars supporting management's agenda of rebranding and repositioning the Polytechnic.

The Rector stated this while receiving delegates from the Department of Tertiary Education, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ogun State, during a familiarisation visit to the institution.

According to him, We are really under pressure to fulfil the core objectives of the system, but the staff of the Polytechnic are quite resilient, with the spirit of Can Do, which keeps us going.

He noted that the support of the Chairman and members of the Governing Council and the commitment of the workforce serve as encouragement to management to remain focused and relentless in repositioning the institution, adding that, We are not looking at the problems; we focus on the solutions.

Arc. Jolaoso briefed the delegates on various ongoing projects across the Polytechnic, noting that the institution has become a construction site. The projects include rehabilitation of the Adebisi Adebayo Administrative Building, Science Laboratory Technology Building and Food Technology Building, completion of the distressed Comfort Station, and construction of the School of Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technology Building and the School of Health Technology Building, among others.

He commended the support received from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Alumni Associations, distinguished individuals and other stakeholders.

The Rector however highlighted major challenges confronting the Polytechnic, including inadequate staff strength, challenges associated with payment of salaries, infrastructural deficits and the accreditation and re-accreditation of academic programmes, stressing that they require urgent intervention and support from the state government.

He disclosed that the Polytechnic is expecting the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, to undertake accreditation and re-accreditation of 44 programmes, 15 of which are newly introduced.

In his remarks, the outgoing Director of DTE, Mr. Christopher Taiwo Adebayo, introduced the incoming Director, Mrs. Adenike Cecilia Lawal, to the management, saying the introduction was aimed at ensuring continuity in developmental engagement and facilitating collaboration and support from the state government.

Mr. Adebayo commended management for sustaining stability despite obvious challenges and assured that the delegation would give holistic attention to the issues raised and communicate the outcome to appropriate authorities for necessary intervention.
