FUNAAB Alumni UK Holds 12th Grand Reunion in Essex

The United Kingdom branch of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Alumni Association has once again demonstrated its strong bond of unity and commitment to the growth of its Alma Mater with the successful hosting of its 12th Grand Reunion, tagged Essex 2025.

The colourful event, which took place on September 6, 2025, at the prestigious New Windmill Hall, St. Mary Lane, Upminster, attracted alumni from across the globe, both physically and virtually, making it a truly global celebration.

The gathering featured distinguished personalities, including the Global President of the Alumni Association, Ambassador Bolaji Gbadamosi; the Global Icon, Prof. Lateef Sanni, Executive Director of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI); and Ambassador Olusola Tobun, former President of the Association.

Delivering his Keynote Address, Ambassador Gbadamosi conveyed the royal blessings and goodwill of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUNAAB, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land. He also relayed the commendation of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who commended the UK branch for its unwavering support to the University, particularly its intervention through food support for indigent students.

The Global President further urged members to transform the food support programme into a sustainable food bank to guarantee year-round assistance for students, noting that plans were already underway with the active involvement of the UK branch.

In his goodwill message, Prof. Sanni expressed gratitude to the UK branch for its steadfast support and solidarity. He fondly recalled the branch’s recognition during his conferment with an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Greenwich, describing their encouragement as deeply humbling. He called for greater unity within the UK branch and across the global Alumni network, emphasising that such cohesion would foster not only the advancement of FUNAAB but also the betterment of society.

The reunion was marked by nostalgic reflections, networking, and a reaffirmation of the Association’s vision to remain a global force for good.
