FUOYE Hosts 9th Convocation, Graduates 8,444 Students
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) celebrated its 9th convocation ceremony with a grand event highlighting academic excellence, cultural heritage, and national recognition.

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) marked a significant milestone with its 9th convocation ceremony, a grand event that celebrated academic achievements, cultural heritage, and national recognition. The ceremony, held at the university’s 1,000-seater auditorium, attracted dignitaries, scholars, and notable personalities from across the country.
The highlight of the event was the convocation lecture delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Sylva Echono. He emphasized the role of innovation and quality education in national development, commending FUOYE for its rapid growth. “FUOYE has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and infrastructural development, setting a standard for other institutions in Nigeria,” Echono stated.
A total of 8,444 students graduated across various academic levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Among them, 177 exceptional students earned First-Class degrees, receiving special recognition for their academic distinction. The university also conferred honorary degrees on four distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to national development. The honorees included former Attorneys General and Ministers of Justice Kanu Godwin Agabi and Bayo Ojo, First Bank of Nigeria Managing Director Mr. Segun Alebiosu, and Air Peace Chairman Dr. Allen Onyema.
As part of its ongoing commitment to academic excellence, FUOYE commissioned several key infrastructural projects during the ceremony. These included a 1,000-seater auditorium, a Faculty of Law Complex, a Professorial Complex, and a state-of-the-art Innovation Hub. Additional facilities, such as modern lecture halls, laboratories, the Fasina Conference Centre, and staff quarters, were also unveiled to enhance the university’s learning environment.
The event further recognized individuals who have made outstanding societal contributions with meritorious awards. Recipients included Hon. Justice Alero Akeredolu, Rep. Akintunde Rotimi, Prof. Stephen Ocheni, Hon. David Idris Zacharias, Chief Segun Ajibulu, Engr. Oluremi Omowaye, Barr. Yemi Ayeni, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, Chief Oladele Owobusuyi, Otunba Shola Adewuyi, and High Chief Ogunleye Emmanuel.
Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the celebration, the ceremony featured an edutainment segment that highlighted Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. Prominent figures from the theatre and music industries, including Femi Adebayo, Saheed Osupa, Dele Odule, Peju Ogunmola, Peter Fatomilola, and Toyin Tomato, not only received honors but also entertained the audience with captivating performances.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, expressed profound appreciation to all stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the event. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence and innovation, pledging continued efforts to provide world-class education and facilities for students and staff.
