FUTA Charges New Student Leaders on Fairness, Equity and Responsible Representation
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has charged newly elected Students’ Union leaders of the institution to uphold fairness, equity, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

She gave the charge during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the new executives held at the T. I. Francis Auditorium on Thursday, 21st May, 2026.
Professor Oladiji urged the student leaders to recognize the diversity of the student population they represent, stressing that inclusiveness and balanced judgment must guide all their decisions and actions.
She emphasized the importance of accessibility and active listening, noting that effective leadership requires sensitivity to student concerns and the ability to ensure that no group feels marginalized.
According to her, true leadership is measured by the capacity to unite people, build consensus, and foster a strong sense of belonging within the university community.
The Vice-Chancellor further cautioned the new executives against misinformation and sensationalism, advising them to engage management through constructive dialogue and evidence-based advocacy.

She encouraged the leaders to adopt a solution-oriented mindset, stressing that sustainable progress is achieved through consultation, collaboration, and responsible engagement rather than confrontation.
Professor Oladiji also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to student welfare, stating that FUTA will continue to provide an enabling environment that supports academic success, personal development, and leadership growth.
She called on the general student body to support their newly elected leaders, noting that effective governance requires cooperation between leadership and the wider student community.
In his remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Olanrewaju Oke, described the emergence of the new executives as a call to service rather than a position of privilege. He urged them to lead with humility, integrity, and accountability.
He emphasized that student leadership serves as a bridge between the university management and the student body, warning against actions that could disrupt academic stability or campus peace.
The immediate past Students’ Union President, Pelemo Desmond, while handing over, advised the new leadership to embrace learning on the job, stressing that leadership is built through service, discipline, and resilience.
He encouraged the new executives to remain bold, accessible, and accountable, while appreciating the university management for its support during his tenure.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Students’ Union President, Akomolafe Ramson, pledged to lead with integrity, fear of God, and full respect for university authority, while seeking the cooperation of students and colleagues in executing his mandate.

The oath of office was administered by Barrister Idorenyin Christopher, marking the formal commencement of the new executive administration.
