Students of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication Technology at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) have made a generous donation to their department. The Class of 2023 and 300-level students presented a photocopying machine and a deep freezer during a ceremony held on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, representatives Praise Jegede and Olufemi Ogunjobi expressed their gratitude to the department, which they described as a second home. They said that making the donation was their way of giving back to a place that had greatly contributed to their academic journey. They thanked the department’s staff for their support throughout their time at FUTA, including during their SIWES programme, and pledged to maintain a connection with the institution even after graduation.

The Head of the Department, Professor Oluwole Akinagbe, commended the final-year students for completing their academic programme and praised the 300-level students for their dedication to advancing the department. He noted that the donated items would enhance the department's operations and urged other students to follow the example set by the donors by contributing to the department's development.

In a speech delivered by Professor Taiwo Amos, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the university management expressed appreciation for the students’ thoughtful gesture. Professor Oladiji highlighted that the donation would be recorded in the history of FUTA as a commendable initiative, emphasizing the importance of remembering one’s roots.

Additionally, Professor Oluwatooyin Oludahunsi, the Dean of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, represented by Professor Anthony Ogunjimi, extended his appreciation to the students. He encouraged them to continue representing FUTA positively and to keep the institution’s flag flying high in all their future endeavors.
