FUTES-Iyin Seeks Collaboration, Mentorship from FUTA

The Principal Officers of the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, paid a working visit to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), seeking to leverage the institution’s wealth of experience in university administration, academic development, research and institutional management.

The visit was aimed at fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between the two institutions, with particular emphasis on mentorship and knowledge sharing as FUTES develops its academic, administrative and governance structures.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTES, Professor James Aribisala, expressed appreciation to the FUTA Management for receiving the delegation, which comprised the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar and University Librarian.

He explained that, as a newly established university, FUTES considered it important to learn from institutions that had developed strong foundations in technology-driven education, research and administration.

Professor Aribisala noted that FUTA’s experience would be particularly valuable to FUTES as it develops its systems, structures and operational procedures. He identified university governance and administration, academic programme development, quality assurance, research and innovation, human resource management, financial administration, library development, ICT and other aspects of institutional management as areas of interest.

The Vice-Chancellor also stressed that the visit was not intended to be a one-off engagement but the beginning of a sustained relationship through which both universities could share knowledge, expertise and opportunities.

He expressed the hope that the relationship would lead to wider institutional collaborations, including research, staff development, academic programmes and other areas of mutual interest.

Responding, the FUTA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, congratulated the management of FUTES on the establishment of the new institution and the commencement of academic activities.

Professor Oladiji assured the delegation of FUTA’s willingness to support the new university through mentorship, experience sharing and institutional collaboration, within the limits of its mandate and established frameworks.

She stressed the importance of laying a strong foundation for a new university, noting that effective governance, sound academic planning, quality assurance and efficient administrative systems are critical to the growth and sustainability of any institution.

The FUTA Vice-Chancellor further observed that FUTES’ focus on technology and environmental sciences provides an opportunity for the university to contribute meaningfully to national development through education, research, innovation and community engagement.

She encouraged the visiting team to develop systems that would promote excellence, accountability and innovation from the outset, while maintaining compliance with the relevant regulatory and professional standards governing the Nigerian university system.

Professor Oladiji also expressed optimism that the relationship between FUTA and FUTES would evolve into a productive institutional partnership, creating opportunities for joint research, academic and professional exchanges, staff development, capacity building and other mutually beneficial initiatives.

The visit marked an important step towards establishing a structured mentorship and collaborative relationship between FUTA and FUTES, with both institutions expressing their commitment to exploring areas of mutual benefit.

The engagement further underscores FUTA’s role not only as a leading technology-focused university but also as an institution willing to contribute to the development and strengthening of Nigeria’s university system through knowledge transfer, mentorship, partnerships and institutional collaboration.
