FUTMINNA students elects Christian Eze as Students' Union President

Christian Nnabuike Eze, 400 Level, Department of Telecommunication Engineering, has been elected as President of the Students' Union, Federal University of Technology, Minna for the 2023/2024 session.

Chairman of the Students' Union Independent Electoral Committee (SUIEC), Prof. Adamu Yusuf Kabiru announced the results shortly after voting ended on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Main Campus, Gidan Kwano. Prof. Kabiru who is also the Focal Officer of SERVICOM in the University thanked the Management, SUIEC members as well as staff and students for their support and cooperation that led to the successful conduct of the election.

In the keenly contested election conducted by electronic voting, Eze, along with his running mates, Lolade Amira Adeleke (300 Level Geophysics, VP 1) and Success Daniel Osaghae (300 Level , Industrial and Technology Education, VP 2) polled a total of 1, 873 votes to get the better of four teams of presidential and vice presidential candidates. Emmanuel Anataku Onotu, 400 Level Cyber Security Science and his team came a close second with 1,591 votes, while Omojade Stephen Pius, 400 Level Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology and Akande Yusuf Zakariyau, 400 Level Estate Management and their running mates polled 1,182 and 905 votes respectively. Bello Ahmad Saidu, 400 Level Urban and Regional Planning and his team occupied the bottom spot with 272 votes.

With five candidates, this year's election recorded the highest number of contestants for the Union's presidency. Even though Emmanuel Kedonojo Akuh, 400Level, Building got the post of General Secretary unopposed, he still polled 5045 votes. Fatimah Zahra Muhammed, 200 Level, Microbiology got 2,867 votes to defeat Adekunle Sodiq Jamiu, 200 Level, Civil Engineering, who polled 2,538 for the post of Assistant General Secretary. With 3,052 votes, Paul Aondohemba Naga, 400 Level Agricultural and Biotechnology Engineering clinched the post of Treasurer ahead of Zhulkifii Omeiza Abdulsalam, 400 Level Plant Biology (2,312 votes), while Mofiyinfoluwa John Ogunwale, 200 Level , Agricultural and Rural Development got elected as Financial Secretary with 2,470 votes , leaving his rivals Adedoyin Islamiyyah Jeariogbe, 300 Level Geology and Veronica Eberechukwu Eznwafor, 200 Level Animal Biology with 1,836 and 1,428 votes respectively.

For Welfare Officer 1, Nnaemeka Emmanuel Okoli, 300 Level Applied Geophysics, won with 2,037 votes, where Abobunrin Wasiu Mustapha,200 Level Agricultural Economics and Farm Management got 1,972 and Sulyman Olafimihan, 300 level Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, polled 1,705. Ibrahim Allawa Adamu, 400 Level Science Education; Opeyemi Toluwani Ayodele, 300 Level Urban and Regional Planning and Adewale Ridwan Alaka, 300 Level Physics were elected unopposed for the posts Welfare Officer 2, Director of Socials and Director of Sports respectively. Olamide Abdulwarris Moshood, 200 Level Geophysics was elected Public Relations Officer with 3,233 votes as Ahmad Muhammad, 200 Level Mechanical Engineering, scored 2,348.

Members of the Students' Representative Assembly cutting across Bosso and Gidan campuses, the nine schools and various hostels and off campus residences were also elected in an exercise that was generally peaceful.
