Gombe State University Holds 26th Inaugural Lecture

Gombe State University has successfully hosted its 26th Inaugural Lecture, delivered by Professor Safiyanu Ishiaku, Professor of Islamic Thought and Modern Development in the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, on 29th July, 2026.
The lecture, titled "Islamic Principles of Tolerance Toward Non-Muslims: A Panacea to Peaceful Coexistence in Multi-Religious Nigeria," examined the Islamic teachings that promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, justice, and harmonious relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims. Professor Ishiaku highlighted that the true principles of Islam encourage dialogue, compassion, and tolerance as essential foundations for building a peaceful and united society, particularly in Nigeria's diverse religious landscape.
The Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Danladi Mohammed Umar, commended the inaugural lecturer for his scholarly contribution to addressing one of Nigeria's most pressing social challenges. He noted that the lecture reflected the University's commitment to advancing knowledge that promotes peace, national unity, and sustainable development.
The event attracted members of the University Council, Senate, Management, staff, students, religious leaders, traditional and community leaders, and other distinguished guests, who applauded the lecture for its timely message on fostering religious harmony and strengthening peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths.
