How UDUS Debate Club is Helping Students Develop Innate Talents

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) Debate Club has been instrumental in helping students develop their innate talents in oratory and public speaking.

The club, established four years ago, has provided a platform for students to explore their skills and showcase their abilities.

Lateefah Bagidi, a final-year English Literature student, discovered her talent for debate and public speaking after joining the club in her 300-Level. She has since become an accomplished debater, winning several awards, including a medal at the University Debate Championship (UDC 1.0) and a cash prize at the university's combined convocation debate.

Muhammad Jawad Oloruntoyin, a 300-Level Law student, also credits the club with helping him overcome stage fright and improve his academic and speaking abilities. He has won several awards, including first position at the NAKSS oratory contest.

Olarewaju Umar Faruq, a 400-Level Law student and vice president of the club, said the inspiration behind establishing UDC was to create an environment where talents could be detected and nurtured.

Bunyamin Balogun, the incumbent president of UDC, expressed his vision for the club to become a national champion, with plans to participate in national and international tournaments.
