The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with Abia State leading in performance. In Abia, 83.40% of candidates achieved five credits, including Mathematics and English Language. Conversely, Katsina State ranked last, with only 2.42% of its candidates meeting these criteria.

NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi reported that 60.55% of candidates—828,284 out of 1,367,736—secured at least five credits, including Mathematics and English. Overall, 83.90% of candidates obtained five credits or more, regardless of subject.

The exam saw a decrease in malpractice incidents, with 8,437 cases reported in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023. However, 40 schools across 17 states were involved in mass cheating, and 21 supervisors faced recommendations for blacklisting due to misconduct.

Special needs candidates numbered 2,267, with various disabilities including hearing and visual impairments. A school in Ekiti State has been recommended for derecognition for mass cheating in core and science subjects.
