The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has strengthened its academic partnership with Wesley University Ondo following a strategic engagement aimed at advancing accounting education and professional training.

During the visit, the university reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the professional body and formally expressed its interest in becoming a fully accredited ICAN study centre.

Discussions also focused on creating a pathway that would allow accounting students of the institution to graduate with both a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree and the Associate Chartered Accountant qualification.

As part of its commitment to the collaboration, the university announced plans to confer an honorary award on a nominee of the Institute during its upcoming convocation ceremony. The institution also disclosed plans to construct a dedicated block on campus for ICAN-related academic and professional activities.

Speaking during the engagement, ICAN President Haruna Yahaya commended the leadership of the university for its forward-looking vision and praised the institution’s blend of academic excellence and strong moral values.

He welcomed the university’s proposal for deeper collaboration and assured the institution of the Institute’s support in moving the initiative forward. Yahaya also indicated that he would return to the university with a delegation to assess the proposal and work toward its implementation.

In recognition of the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership, the ICAN president and management also announced that the university’s Vice-Chancellor Samuel Sunday Obeka would receive an honorary ICAN award during the planned visit.

The ICAN delegation included Immediate Past President Davidson Alaribe, First Deputy Vice President Etofolam Osuji, Second Deputy Vice President Oye Akinsulire, Registrar and Chief Executive Lanre Olasunkanmi, and Deputy Registrar Technical Services Ijeoma Anaso, alongside other senior officials of the Institute.

The Wesley University delegation was led by Vice-Chancellor Samuel Sunday Obeka and included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Edward Oyekanmi, Bursar Dorcas Akinjobi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Peter Anyanwu, Director of Research and Innovation Aribatise Adekunle, Dean of the College of Law S F Akinbuli, Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences A O Agboola, and Director of Finance and Investment Kolawole Olasoji.

Both institutions said the engagement highlights their shared commitment to strengthening professional accounting education and expanding career opportunities for students through academic and professional collaboration.
