JAMB Warns Candidates Against Accepting Admissions Outside CAPS, Urges Institutions to Comply

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a renewed warning to candidates to refrain from accepting admissions from tertiary institutions that are not processed through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The board has also emphasized the urgency for institutions to disclose all admissions made outside CAPS from 2017 to 2023.

In a statement released on Thursday by JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, the board addressed the influx of candidates seeking resolution for issues related to undisclosed admissions. The statement clarified that while many candidates are approaching JAMB offices, the primary responsibility lies with the institutions to comply with disclosure requirements.

“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has observed a large number of candidates thronging its offices to resolve issues related to the disclosure of candidates admitted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) from 2017 to date. While we appreciate the enthusiasm, we must correct the misconception that the focus is on candidates’ actions,” the statement read.

JAMB stressed that the emphasis is on tertiary institutions to disclose all admissions made outside CAPS by the deadline of August 31, 2024. Institutions are required to carefully review the board’s initial directives and ensure full compliance. Failure to adhere to these requirements will result in severe consequences.

“We urge institutions to carefully review our initial letter and ensure full compliance, as failure to disclose will result in severe consequences. Candidates are also reminded not to accept admissions outside CAPS,” the statement added.

The board further reiterated that candidates admitted outside of CAPS and not disclosed by institutions will not be entertained. JAMB emphasized that it will not condone undisclosed admissions and will enforce strict measures moving forward.

Candidates are advised to ensure their admissions are processed through CAPS to avoid complications and to seek redress only through the official JAMB channels.
