JAMB Directs NAPS to Consult Relevant Authorities Over HND Mobilization for NYSC
He explained that JAMB’s role is limited to conducting entrance exams for universities, National Diploma (ND), and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes, while HND admissions are handled by individual institutions.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) to channel their concerns about the non-mobilization of some Higher National Diploma (HND) students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the appropriate authorities.
During a meeting with NAPS leadership at JAMB's headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, clarified that the Board has no involvement in the admission or mobilization of HND students for the NYSC. He explained that JAMB’s role is limited to conducting entrance exams for universities, National Diploma (ND), and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes, while HND admissions are handled by individual institutions.
Oloyede further expressed surprise that JAMB was being targeted by the association and attributed the misunderstanding to a lack of knowledge about the Board's mandate. He also addressed concerns over part-time polytechnic programmes, noting that his criticism was specifically aimed at “Daily Part-Time” schemes that exploit students.
JAMB encouraged NAPS to direct their grievances to the proper channels to resolve the issue.
