The Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Nasarawa State chapter, MLS Amos B. John, paid a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Salamatu Abdurrahman Muhammad, during the 2024 Batch B, Stream II Orientation at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

During the visit, MLS John expressed his gratitude and extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Muhammad. He outlined the Association’s goals, including advocating for the interests of medical laboratory scientists, promoting the profession, and enhancing healthcare delivery across Nigeria. He emphasized the critical role medical laboratory scientists play in disease surveillance and control.

The primary aim of the visit was to strengthen collaboration between AMLSN and NYSC. MLS John shared plans for the Association to engage corps members, seeking management’s approval to sensitize them about AMLSN’s work, donate essential items to the camp clinic, and advocate for a blood donation drive. He stressed the urgent need for voluntary blood donations to address critical shortages in the healthcare system.

In response, Mrs. Muhammad warmly welcomed the Chairman and expressed appreciation for the visit. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about blood donation and suggested that places of worship could serve as venues for outreach efforts. Additionally, she requested that the Association educate corps members on general hygiene and disease prevention, particularly focusing on the prevention of monkeypox and cholera outbreaks. She also highlighted the importance of informing Medical Laboratory Science graduates about the need for licensure before commencing their service year.

The meeting concluded with enthusiasm from both parties, who are committed to upholding high standards in medical laboratory practices and improving healthcare delivery across the country.
