Kogi State College of Health Mobilizes First Set of Students for NYSC After 47 Years
For the first time in its 47-year history, the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, has mobilized its inaugural batch of graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This marks a turning point for the institution and its students, who can now participate in the NYSC scheme.
This follows the recent accreditation of the college's Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Environmental Health and Health Information Management by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) , a crucial step that had previously hindered graduates of the institution from being enlisted in the NYSC.
The Acting Provost of the College, Sanitarian Umar Anataku Shaibu, expressed his happiness at the development, describing it as a "historic milestone". He attributed the success to the unwavering support of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the transformative reforms implemented by his administration in the education sector.
"This is a dream come true for the entire college community," said Shaibu. "For 47 years, our graduates were denied the opportunity to serve their fatherland through the NYSC. Today, we have broken that jinx. I commend His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his visionary leadership and commitment to elevating the standard of education in Kogi State."
The mobilization of the first set of HND graduates is seen as a significant boost to the morale of both students and staff of the college. It is expected to enhance the institution's reputation and attract more prospective students to its accredited programmes. The graduates are now eligible to contribute their skills and knowledge to national development in various parts of the country.
