MDCN Team Visits University of Maiduguri for Accreditation of Medical and Dental Programmes

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has conducted an accreditation visit to the University of Maiduguri to evaluate the College of Medical Sciences. The exercise took place on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has conducted an accreditation visit to the University of Maiduguri to evaluate the College of Medical Sciences. The exercise took place on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, commended the Council for its consistent efforts in upholding quality and professionalism in medical education nationwide. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing competent, ethical, and compassionate healthcare professionals capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving health challenges.

Professor Mele further noted that the College of Medical Sciences remains one of the pillars of excellence that defines the University of Maiduguri’s reputation in medical training and research.

Leading the MDCN team, Dr. Nna Emeka Nwakanma applauded the university for its resilience and continued dedication to high standards in medical education. He explained that the visit aimed not only to assess the programmes’ compliance with national standards but also to identify areas for improvement to strengthen academic and professional outcomes.

The accreditation exercise focused on two major programmes — Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) — with the goal of ensuring that both meet the professional benchmarks required for medical and dental training in Nigeria.
