NAAS, KASU Chapter Commemorates National Agricultural Day with Landmark Event

 

The National Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, hosted a momentous event on Monday, 22nd April 2024, to mark the National Agricultural Day.

Held at the Multipurpose Hall, Kafanchan Campus of the University, the event revolved around the theme "Farming in the 21st Century: Prospects and Challenges," drawing attention to the pivotal role of agriculture in modern society.

 

The occasion served as a platform to celebrate and recognize the invaluable contributions of individuals and organizations within the agricultural sector. Distinguished guests, including the Chairman of the Occasion, the Distinguished Senator representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Marshall Katung, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, and Registrar, Kaduna State University, Barr. Samira Balarabe graced the event with their presence.

Among the objectives outlined for the event were honouring key figures in the food sector, raising awareness about the significance of agriculture in daily life, and establishing April 22nd as the National Agricultural Day for NAAS, KASU Chapter. Additionally, the event aimed to foster collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange among various stakeholders in the agricultural domain, ranging from rural farmers to policymakers.

 

The presence of esteemed dignitaries such as the Provost, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Ibrahim Abbas Sodangi, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr Maharazu Ibrahim, former Commissioners, Hon. Edward P. Masha and Hon. Yunana Allahmagani, Hon. Christopher Sarki, and Hon. Elias Manza, former Chairmen of Zangon Kataf Local Government underscored the importance of the occasion. Furthermore, representatives from governmental bodies, including the Commissioner and Administrator of Kafanchan Municipal Authority, Mrs. Phoebe Sukai Yayi, added gravitas to the event.

 

The event featured insightful discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions, providing a platform for attendees to delve into the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture in the contemporary era. Students, as future leaders in the agricultural landscape, actively participated in the discourse, contributing their perspectives and ideas towards advancing the sector.

 

In his address, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address the evolving demands and complexities of agricultural practices in the 21st century. He commended the initiative taken by NAAS, KASU Chapter, in spearheading such a significant event and encouraged sustained engagement and collaboration among stakeholders to drive agricultural development in the region.

 

Overall, the National Agricultural Day celebration organized by NAAS, KASU Chapter, catalyzed fostering dialogue, cooperation, and innovation within the agricultural sector, reaffirming its pivotal role in ensuring food security, sustainability, and economic prosperity.
