Nasarawa State University Strengthens East African Ties Through Strategic Diplomatic Engagements

 In a significant move to expand its international academic footprint, the management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), led by Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega, has concluded high-level meetings with Nigerian diplomatic missions in Kenya and Tanzania. 

The visit, part of the university’s 2026 East Africa Linkage Mission, aims to secure diplomatic support for a series of cross-border academic initiatives. 

According to the NSUK Information and Protocol Unit, the university is seeking to establish an enabling environment for sustained international cooperation through:

Enhanced Mobility: Facilitating seamless staff and student exchange programmes between Nigeria and East African institutions.

Joint Research Ventures: Promoting collaborative scientific and academic studies to address continental challenges.

Research Dissemination: Strengthening the global reach and impact of NSUK’s research outputs within the East African region. 

The delegation, which included Vice-Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, engaged in several high-profile meetings to bolster "Science Diplomacy":

In Nairobi: The team met with world-renowned Pan-Africanist Professor PLO Lumumba to discuss leveraging intellectual expertise for "home-grown" African solutions.

In Dar es Salaam: Strategic talks were held with James Kinyasi Millya (MP), Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, emphasizing the role of higher education in regional development.

Consular Support: The Nigerian High Commissions in both countries are expected to provide critical administrative and consular facilitation to ensure the success of future academic exchanges. 

The Pro-Chancellor reaffirmed that these partnerships are vital for positioning NSUK as a "Knowledge for Development" hub on the continent, aligning with global academic standards.
