NHIA Enlightens Osun Corps Members on Health Insurance

Dr. Adeyemo saheed of the National Health Insurance Authority on Wednesday enlightened Osun state Corps Members on the government's healthcare insurance programme available to them during their service year.

Myschoolnews reports Adeyemo addressed the Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp on the importance of good health care, leveraging on the popular saying "Health is Wealth". He highlighted the benefits accrued from their enrollment in the NHIA programme which was initiated by the former president Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in September, 2021.

Speaking further, Adeyemo introduced the Group Individual Family Health Finance Programme (GIFSHIP-n) programme which was previously only opened to civil servants but now covers all mobilized Corps Members. He also highlighted some of the objectives of the NHIA which includes: access to good healthcare services by all Corps Members, protection from huge healthcare bills, mitigating the rise in the cost of healthcare services as well as maintenance of high standard of healthcare services available to Corps Members.

Describing the roles of Corps Members he asked that they always have their call up number handy. He emphasized the need for them to know their HMOs which will not change through out the service year. Highlighting some of the benefits of the package he noted that accredited medical facilities do not demand co-payment for drugs from Corps Members. Also that the programme covers for eye examinations, a cumulative stay period of 21 days per year in a standard hospital ward, a range of prostheses, dental care, surgical procedures requiring specialist care and maternity care.

Still enlightening the Corps Members on the benefits of the insurance plan, he stressed that their call up number is their access to receiving medical attention at the accredited centers. Adding, he noted that the health plan retains some exclusions as drug abuse, industrial injuries, epidemics, ENT- hearing aids and associated appliances, cosmetic surgeries and injury from national disasters among others.

Concluding, he called on Corps Members not to hesitate in registering grievances as they visit the different accredited health care centers. He went to mention the HMOs for the six geopolitical zone as well as answered Corps Members questions relevant to their maximization of the insurance programme.
