The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Uduma Orji Uduma, has paid a high-profile familiarisation visit to the University’s Chancellor, His Royal Majesty Omo N’ Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, served as the formal introduction of the new helmsman to the traditional ruler, following the successful tenure of his predecessor.
Honouring a Legacy of Leadership
Professor Uduma was formally presented to the monarch by the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters. During the audience, Uduma eulogised the Oba for his selfless leadership, which he credited for the significant milestones NOUN has achieved in recent years.
"I am delighted to work with your Majesty towards the realisation of the NOUN dream," Professor Uduma stated, pledging to consolidate and build upon the institutional foundations laid by Professor Peters.
Convocation Invitations and Royal Counsel
The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to formally invite the Chancellor to the university’s upcoming Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for April 17 and 18, 2026.
In his response, Oba Ewuare II congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and expressed absolute confidence in his capacity to lead. The Royal Father also:
Commended the Outgoing VC: Praised Professor Peters for his successful administration and prayed for his future endeavours.
Offered Strategic Counsel: Advised Professor Uduma to "brace up" for the unique leadership challenges inherent in managing an institution as vast and prestigious as NOUN.
